[问答题]
Would a spring scale carried to the Moaaknq +bf3 agro+q,eiue7)*e7y; 5vron give accurate results if the sca pawhi*5sy3 4jle had been calijpw* hy5i3as 4brated (a) in pounds, or (b) in kilograms?

参考答案:
Only the pounds reading would be correct.  The spring scale works on the fact that a certain force (the weight of the object being weighed) will stretch the spring a certain distance.  That distance is proportional to the product of the mass and the acceleration due to gravity.  Since the acceleration due to gravity is smaller by a factor of 6 on the moon, the weight of the object is smaller by a factor of 6, and the spring will be pulled to only one-sixth of the distance that it was pulled on the Earth.  The mass itself doesn’t change when moving to the Moon, and so a mass reading on the Moon would be incorrect.
